Six persons have been confirmed dead in the gun duel battle that broke out between Okoloba and Okuama communities in Bomadi and Ughelli South, on Sunday 28 of January 2024.

The dispute between the two riverine communities was a result of land and a fishing lake that caused threats to life and property last year up until yesterday when many sustained injuries from bullet wounds and some were confirmed dead.

An insider in the community disclosed to Vanguard that the shooting initially started on Saturday 27, killing six and inflicting various degrees of injuries on others.

He said: “You are aware, this crisis has been brewing since last year when our community sent an open letter, calling on the state government to intervene, urging the government to call the aggressor, the Okuoma community, to order.

“Yesterday, between the period of 5 pm and 6 pm, the two communities engaged in a face-to-face shootout and six persons went down on the side of Okuama, including three mercenaries from other communities. They are Urhobo and Ijaw mercenaries.”

The insider further added that any moment at about 5:20 pm the battle might be kicked started again from any of the communities.

The communities are beaconing on the Delta state government to come to their rescue to salvage lives and properties from further destruction.
