Delta Government Monitors School Resumption, Commend Students And Teachers

Delta State Government (DTSG) has described the level of compliance of teachers and students to resume the third term school calendar in the state as impressive.

The Commissioner for Secondary Education in the state, Rose Ezewu, stated this while monitoring the resumption of schools for the third term academic activities across the state.

Ezewu reiterated the resolve of the state government to articulate deliberate measures towards sustaining effective implementation of the academic calendar without hindering teaching and learning in schools.

She said that the state government had continued to prioritise the education sector in the state and urged teachers to show more commitment in the discharge of their duties

Ezewu stated that the essence of the monitoring visit was to ascertain the level of commitment of teachers and students.

She reminded teachers that they were critical stakeholders in the education system and advised students to imbibe reading culture in order to perform well in all examinations, including the promotion examinations which, she said, would be conducted at the end of every third term.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Primary Education in the state, Chief Sunday Onoriode, who monitored school resumption in various public primary schools in the state, noted that the present administration had given the education sector the needed boost.

Chief Onoriode urged teachers to redouble their commitment so as to reciprocate the kind gesture of the state government in transforming the sector.

He expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm and determination of teachers and pupils to commence teaching and learning.

He identified consistent reading culture as necessary for brilliant performances in examinations, adding that teachers should discharge their duties religiously for the overall benefits of the children and the society at large.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Augustine Oghoro, who visited some schools in the state capital territory, including the Unity School and Government Model Secondary School, expressed satisfaction with the population of students and teachers in the schools, describing the situation as impressive.

Oghoro said that it was heartwarming to observe that some schools had commenced classes, adding that most of the SS3 students were writing JAMB examination which coincided with the resumption date; hence, they were not in school.

He charged teachers to continue to show love for the children by ensuring they impacted meaningfully on them to excel in life, adding that they should consider the bye 40 years of service and 65 years retirement age, approved for them by the state government, as an encouragement for them to put in their best.
