A priest at the Roman Catholic Church, Cardinal Jean Claude Hollerich has said the church is wrong in its position that homosexuality is sinful.

In a recent interview with KDA a German catholic news Agency, Hollerich said the church is no longer correct in its teaching about homosexuality.

His statement drew attention because of his position in the church. He leads the commission of bishop conferences of the European Union and Pope’s choice for relator general for the October 2023 global synod of bishops.

Hollerich said “It is time for a fundamental revision of church teaching and the way in which Pope Francis has spoken of homosexuality could lead to a change of doctrine”

“In our archdiocese in Luxembourg no one is fired for being homosexual, divorced or remarried. I can’t count them out since they will be unemployed and how can such act be Christian? For priests who are homosexual, there are many of these, it will be good if they can talk about it with their Bishop without condemning them.”

Reacting to the statement, Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler Texas, tweeted that “This cardinal seems to be claiming a private revelation which is contrary to scripture and Catechism of the Catholic church. Any revelation that contradicts public revelation must be condemned.”
