Nominated List Of Commissioners Cause Uproar In Delta State

The list of nominated commissioners ready to be screened today at Delta State House of Assembly is having lots of disagreement in the state.

Starting from the fact that the letterhead carrying the names of the commissioners was not signed by the governor, has no date and was also not addressed to the speaker of the house.

The letter however with the name of the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, with the title “For Appointments As Hon Commissioner And Members Of The Delta State Executive Council,” requested the State Assembly to consider the nominations of the 26 commissioners.

One Francis Abulu, a leader of Egbema Integrity Group (EIG), accused Governor Oborevwori of starting on the wrong foot because he appointed two persons from the same council without including an Ijaw man.

“The people were sad after a list of commissioners-designate surfaced because, since the creation of Warri North Local Government, it has always been Itsekiri occupying the position at the State Executive Council. Not until toward the end of Governor Uduaghan’s second tenure that an Ijaw, Joel Bisina, was made commissioner for six months,” he said.

Further speaking the leader said it was with high hope for the people of Egbema that the Oborevwori administration would change the narrative but it turned out that Ijaws in Warri North would continue on the same neglected fate.

The leaders said the Governor ought to have been sensitive to the fact that the local government was inhabited by two ethnic groups.

Therefore they are calling on all sons and daughters of Egbema to come out and protest this injustice with every legitimate means.

The protest is not left for the Ijaws as youths also from Arhavwarien, Okparabe and Ewu led by one Mr Ovie Ughellicha, took their grievances to Government House, Asaba, on grounds that nobody from their area was given a commissioner’s slot.
