Some cities are experiencing a hike in pump prices due to fuel scarcity which is slowly crawling to other parts of the country.

During the weekend in some Northern parts of Nigeria, a litre of petrol was sold for N900 with long queues seen at petrol stations.

To ease tension, the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, NNPCL, assured  Nigerians that there is a lot of fuel to serve the nation for the next three months while they expect more vessels and apprehension should not be entertained by the populace.

However, in a new development, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN Public Relations Officer, Chinedu Ukadike, said there are no petroleum products to sell in the country.

Ukadike said the scarcity is a result of maintenance being done in most European countries’refineries and it would take 2-3 weeks for things to normalize.

He also added that the renewal of licences for marketers was at a very low pace and it’s another factor affecting the industry that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, needs to work on.
