The first man to be alive after receiving a pig kidney transplant has been discharged from Massachusetts General Hospital following his recuperating.

Pigs are said to be suitable donors for humans because of their metabolism.

A statement from the Hospital’s X handle says after two weeks of the operation, MaRick Slayman, is recovering well and will do better at home with his family.

The 62-year-old Slayman showed excitement when leaving the hospital that he had wished for this for several years but it is now a reality.

Slayman suffered a life-threatening kidney disease before a genetically modified organ of a pig was transplanted.

Other patients who are going through this life challenge, mark a new turn for them.

The procedure known as xenotransplantation has been the subject of research for many years until March 16 when it was transplanted on Slayman
