The Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of The Advocate Newspaper, Mr. Shedrack Onisha, has stated that the four-year mandate given to President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has yet to translate into meaningful democratic governance for the people.
Speaking in an interview with Crown FM in Asaba, Onisha expressed concern over the current state of the economy at both the federal and state levels, describing it as “shambolic” and lamenting its harsh impact on the average Nigerian.
According to him, “The contract Nigerians gave them was for four years of effective governance, but so far, the people are yet to feel the impact. The economy is in a terrible state, and life has become unbearable for the common man.”
He noted that even within Delta State, citizens continue to cry out for better leadership and tangible dividends of democracy that can improve their standard of living.
On the ongoing wave of defections within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Onisha criticized the trend of political cross-carpeting, saying it has historically been driven by personal ambition rather than public interest.
“It’s the same faces moving from one party to another, not for the benefit of the people but for selfish gains. That’s why the people remain at the receiving end,” he said.
Onisha further attributed the PDP’s internal crisis to former Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, alleging that Okowa’s support for a presidential candidate who was rejected by Nigerians contributed significantly to the party’s current troubles.
