An enforcement raid was carried out by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on Thursday in Abuja to ensure that sellers are complying with regulating their prices as stated by the FCCPC.

Earlier the agency had made a call to business owners to reduce the market price of commodities sold since there is a visible change in the naira dollar exchange.

To drive the agenda, the Executive Secretary of FCCPC, Dr Adamu Abdullahi, sent some regulatory personnel to the city of Abuja and two supermarkets were found wanting on price inflation.

Two of the 4U supermarkets located at Wuse II were sealed on Thursday after 33 fake bags of Caprice and Stallion rice were seen filled with weevils.

According to Abdullahi, the unannounced clampdown will be spread to stores, and open markets across major cities in different parts of the state like Kano, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Kaduna to help reduce prices in the coming weeks.

Major markets will today, Friday be raided by FCCPC to check the prices of consumables and any trader found wanting will face the consequences
