Labour Party House of Representatives Member, Hon. Benedict Etanabene representing Okpe, Uvwie and Sapele Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly has frowned at the recent renaming of Federal Airports by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to the Federal Ministry of Aviation, the Osubi Airport was named after Alfred Diete Spiff from Delta State.

Etanabene vowed to move a motion for the change back to notable names from the Urhobo Nation who have distinguished themselves in Nigeria.

He made this disclosure in an interview with our correspondent at the P.T.I Conference Centre in Effurun that there are notable Urhobo sons and daughters that have distinguished themselves in various works of life, like Olorogun Michael Ibru, HRM Major General(Rtd) Mujakperoro, the Orodje of Okpe and many others the airport should be named after and certainly not Alfred Diete Spiff who has no link or whatsoever to the development of the State and not even from Delta Central Senatorial District.

Speaking further, the former Chairman of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) Petroleum Training Institute(P.T.I) chapter asserted that monuments are to be named after distinguished citizens of a particular area or State but not those who are outside the state which most times can generate unrest.

The rep member further said the motion will be moved to the floor of the Green Chamber and lobby the president to see reasons why it should be changed immediately and named after one of Delta’s own, especially the Urhobo Nation.
