Following the police invitation of Comrade Joe Ajearo, the Nigerian Labour Congress President, over a treasonable felony and financing terrorism, the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, has threatened to shut down the power sector if Ajearo is arrested.
In a statement pouring out their grievances towards the Intelligence Response Team, IRT of the Nigerian police, NUEE’s Acting General Secretary, Igwebike Dominic, said it was such a childish and callous act of the Nigerian government.
He noted that the invitation has a political undertone against Ajaero as an NLC by the Federal Government as such witch-hunting will not be taken with levity.
Dominic recounted the unlawful invasion of NLC headquarters by police security, and instead of FG apologizing to NLC and the leadership, they took into name-calling, intimidation, and harassment.
Further speaking, the statement revealed that what the Government is doing is silencing freedom of speech in the country and allowing the people to suffer under unfavorable policies.
However, earlier to the statement released, Comrade Joe Ajearo had sent a reply to IRT through his lawyer that he would honor their invitation on the 29th of August.
