The event in Kigali, Rwanda to mark the 30 years tribute to the deadly civil war that broke out between the Hutus and Tutsis in July 1994 claiming over 800 thousand lives, was sorrowfully marked on Sunday.

The county would observe a week of national mourning with its flag flying at half mast, no music in radio and public places while broadcast TVs are allowed to televise content relating to the 1994 massacre.

To mark the memorial of the crisis that lasted for over two years President Paul Kagame began by lighting a remembrance flame at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where more than 250,000 victims are believed to be buried.

With mournful sounds from the army band, foreign delegates alongside African heads of state were present to witness how Kegame placed wreaths on the mass graves.

Rwandans later proceeded to the Nation’s capital for a candlelight vigil for all those slaughtered at the genocide.
