Following the protest by students of the University of Calabar over a hike in tuition fees, Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the institution has ordered a stop to the increment until further notice.

The decision is contained in a statement issued on Monday by the university’s Registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe, and made available to journalists.

UniCal management increased the fees of the institution after an emergency meeting was held on December 1, 2023.

The statement from the VC’s office: “The management of this institution is a listening administration.

“We want to assure the students as critical stakeholders that appropriate arrangements have been put in place through constructive engagements with the students to resolve the matter.

“The management, however, commends the students for the mature, reasonable, and civilized manner exhibited towards resolving the matter.”
