Sawyer Appointed Force Commander Abyei, UN

The Secretary-General of United Nations, António Guterres had on Tuesday announced Maj.Gen. Benjamin Sawyer a Nigerian as the Force Commander for United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei UNISFA.

According to UN correspondent of NAN, Sawyer appointment as Force Commander for UNISFA succeeds Maj. Gen. Kefyalew Amde Tessema from Ethiopia.

Maj. Gen. Sawyer has a military career with Nigeria Army for more than 34 years, including being a Director of Defence Information since 2021 at Nigeria Defence Forces.

In 2020-2021 he has served as commandant on Nigeria Army Armour school in Bauchi State.

Twice he has held the position of Brigade Commander in North East Nigeria, where he command United Nations Nigeria Battalion on Mission in Liberia from 2009-2010, with other various positions.
