The Rivers State House of Assembly complex was gutted by fire Sunday night at around 10 p.m.

This is coming amidst rumors of lawmakers making moves to impeach the state Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Reporters gathered that the fire started when some suspected hoodlums threw an explosive device into the complex at night.

The fire at the complex was put out with the timely arrival of fire service men and security agents from the nearby Command of the Rivers Police.

A police officer, who pleaded anonymity attributed the fire incident to be politically induced.

“Yes, it is true. The fire occurred around 9:30 p.m. or so. But has been put out by firefighters who arrived at the scene just in time. I think it has to do with politics,” he stated.

Further reports gathered that some of the lawmakers in the state have concluded arrangements to first impeach the leader of the House, Eddison Ehie, to easily impeach Fubara.
