Reps to increase the educational qualification of President, others

A bill in the House of Representatives seeks to commence an increase in the educational qualification in elective position in the country.

The bill which has passed the first reading at the lower chamber of the national Assembly, seeks to increase the minimum academic qualification for president, governor, state and federal lawmakers.

The 1999 constitution states that a person can be elected as President, Governor, lawmaker with a school certificate or its equivalent. But with this new bill sponsored by Adewunmi Onanuga from Ogun State, seeks to raise the minimum qualification to a university level or its equivalent.
