A new date has been fixed for the commencement of crude oil production at the Port Harcourt refinery two months after the first announcement was made by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Heineken Lokpobiri.

The new development was made known by the National Public Relations Officer of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chief Ukadike Chinedu, that in July the refinery may start production.

The 210,000-barrel-per-day Port-Harcourt refinery one of the biggest in Nigeria was closed in 2019 for maintenance and last year December flaring was kicked started.

However, on Monday, IPMAN hinted that the reasons for the delay were beyond understanding but by the end of July full-scale production is expected at the refinery.
