Police Arrest Pupils For Setting School On Fire

Two minors have been arrested by the police in Ogun State for setting a Community Primary School at Isheri Olofin, Ifo Local Government Area, on fire.

The alleged culprits, 6-year-old Wahis Musa and Malik Iliasu 9-year-old were pupils of the community primary school.

According to reports from the Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, the children were arrested by the Ojodu-Abiodun Divisional Police Officer in Ogun State.

He said, “Two pupils of Community Primary School, Isheri Olofin, one Wahis Musa, aged 6 years, and Malik Iliasu, aged 9 years, both residents of the Isheri Olofin community, have been apprehended for setting fire to their school and properties of the school on 29th October 2023.”

A statement from the Police said a disturbing report came from one of the chiefs in the community that Wahis Musa and Malik gained access to the school from a classroom that was not locked, gathered books left by teachers and pupils and set them on fire.

After the Anti-Crime team and police detectives had visited the scene, Odutola said the children were brought to the station for interrogation.

She also said an investigation is ongoing to unravel everything behind the fire incident, while efforts are being made to contact the parents of the children.
