Some political thugs with sticks on Monday rendered rain of beating Segun Showunmi, a former Governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital at the Election Petition Tribunal.

The tribunal however began the hearing of the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, against Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress.

Magistrates Court at Isabo was filled with a combined team of security operatives but some thugs were seen holding canes and sticks.

A minor clash later broke out between the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

It took the intervention of fully armed security operatives, comprising the police, DSS and Civil Defense to disperse the thugs before peace was restored.

The clash made the security operatives prevent political supporters from entering the court premises.

However, some of the political thugs were roaming about with canes in their hands while some security agents watched without arresting or stopping them from causing chaos.

It was at that moment Showunmi arrived at the Court’s gate when the thugs were still much around.

Showunmi was introducing himself to the security agents at the gate when the thugs descended on him with sticks but was whisked away for safety.

Apart from Showunmi, some political party supporters were also beaten.
