Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has encouraged local communities to prioritize dialogue over confrontation as a means of resolving grievances between them and Oil companies, since conflict does not benefit both parties involved.

Oborevwori who said this while playing host to the Seplat Energy management team, led by the CEO, Roger Brown, at Government House, Asaba the state capital, stressed that economic sabotage negatively impacts crude oil production and deters investors which according to him, ultimately restricts job creation and wealth generation.

He commended Seplat Energy Plc’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and their proactive engagement with local communities as he assured continued mutually beneficial partnership to create an enabling environment for operations to flourish.

The Governor noted that the state holds a respected position nationally, following its contributions at the federal level, achieved through peace and collaboration promising that the MORE Agenda is all encompassing.

Earlier, Seplat CEO, Roger Brown reiterated the strategic importance of Delta State to the company’s growth, seeking for partnership with the state government as he announced a plan to phase out routine gas flaring by 2025, which happens to be five years ahead of Nigeria’s national target.
