NRC: Lagos-Kano Train Derails in Kaduna kills driver

The narrow-gauge train traveling from Lagos to Kano has derailed at Farin Ruwa, near Jaji in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

PRO of Northern Regional District of Nigeria Railways Corporation (NRC) Zaria, Mallam Abdullahi Alhaji confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.

The driver of the train was reported to have died during the incident, while conveying soft drinks to Kano through a cargo train.

He said the incident happened as a result of the vandalization of slippers and other accessories of the rail track in the area.

Rescue efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the deceased to salvage the situation for the train to continue its journey to Kano, this is according to Alhaji.
