The Lagos State government discredited the reports on social media on Sunday to conduct mass burial for persons who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protest in 2020.

In a statement by the state Permanent Secretary,  Ministry of Health Dr. Olusegun Ogboye stated that the rumours were the handiwork of mischief makers as there were no casualties at the Lekki toll gate.

“For the records, the Lagos State Environmental Health Unit (SEHMU) picked up bodies in the aftermath of #EndSARS violence and community clashes at Fagba, Ketu, Ikorodu, Orile, Ajegunle, Abule-Egba, Ikeja, Ojota, Ekoro, Ogba, Isolo and Ajah areas of Lagos State. There was also a jailbreak at Ikoyi Prison.

“The 103 casualties mentioned in the document were from these incidents and not from Lekki toll-gate as being alleged. For the avoidance of doubt, nobody was retrieved from the Lekki toll gate incident.

The Permanent Secretary maintained that since no one responded to claim any of the 103 dead bodies after three years the state had to do the needful to decongest the morgue.

The letter dated July 19, disclosed that the state government engaged the service of a private firm, Messrs Tos Funeral Ltd at N61,285,000 to bury the 103 bodies that were identified as victims of the killings in different parts of the state.
