The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has made it very clear that there are no intentions of increasing telecom tariffs after the removal of fuel subsidy.

The reassurance was given by the executive vice chairman of NCC, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta in Lagos when during the Titans of Tech awards.

Danbatta through the zonal controller of NCC in Lagos, Mr Yomi Arowosafe said: “NCC has said that it is not ready to increase telecom tariff for now due to subsidy removal.

“Such a decision is left for the entire industry to determine. We do a lot of industry consultations. We run a participative system of engagement in NCC. We can’t even talk about the increase now. There has to be a lot of engagements with stakeholders”

The EVC during the event was awarded Pan African Telecoms Operator of the year, while Mr Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs of the commission was given the Digital Public Relations Communicator of the year Award.
