The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has come under criticism for allegedly extending the service year of a corp member serving in Lagos State, Rita Uguamaye, for bashing President Tinubu’s administration.
A few months back, Uguamaye went viral through a video she posted on TikTok, in which she expressed her frustration about how the economy has been making living conditions hell for the ordinary Nigerian and how Lagos was a smelly state.
The corp member was later warned by various people to pull down the video and apologize to the president and Lagosians for using such derogatory words.
However, in a new twist, the corp member has raised an alarm that her service year has been extended by 60 days. In response to the claims, NYSC’s Acting Director of Press and Public Relations, Carol Embu, has dismissed the allegations.
According to Embu, decisions on service extension can only be made after a corps member’s end of service year.
“She is still in service, so how can an extension already be in effect?
“NYSC operates within a framework of rules and procedures. We do not act arbitrarily.”
