The two-day warning strike proposed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has begun today.

The dialogue between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong and the Labour union on Monday, September 4th to avert the strike failed after the NLC president refused to show up.

NLC said the strike was necessary as a result of the plight of Nigerians while protesting against the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.

Adding further the Labour union said negotiation with the federal government can only be possible if fuel subsidy is reversed.

“Also after the two-day warning strike, we will sit back and strategize the next line of action,” NLC said.

The National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institution Employees had also directed a total shutdown of the financial sector for two days starting from today Tuesday, September 5.

This strike action is most likely to ground economic activities.
