Governor Okowa addressing youths in Warri

The Governor of Delta state, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa has blamed national politics for the moribund state of the Warri sea port over the years.

Governor Okowa stated this during a town hall meeting with Delta youths, the meeting included #ENDSARS protesters, civil society groups, students, social groups, community leaders and stakeholders across Delta South and Delta Central Senatorial Districts. Okowa however said the nation has now realized it can no longer solely rely on the sea port in Lagos state.

The Governor revealed that with the first phase of the dredging of the Warri port completed, there is need for the second phase of the dredging for the port to come fully on stream.

He called on the Federal Government to quickly resuscitate the Warri Port as it is key to curbing unemployment in the state and the nation.

He further stated that with the congestion of the ports in Lagos, the Federal Government should work to revive the Warri Port and other seaports in Delta State to boost the nation’s economy and create employment for the youths.

“I thank our youths for peacefully coordinating themselves. I want to assure you that this administration will address the issues raised. This town hall is an opportunity to hear from the people directly and provide solutions to the issues raised,” Governor Okowa said.
