After a ransom was paid and a motorcycle bought by the Muslim community to the bandits that abducted 16 church worshippers on Sunday in Kaduna State, the captives have been released.
On Sunday, May 7, 2023, during a church service at Bege Baptist Church in Madala near Buruku, Chikun LGA about 40 worshippers were abducted by bandits.
Some of the kidnapped victims were able to escape and return home, leaving about 16 others still in captivity.
But yesterday in Kaduna, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state, Rev John Hayab, told journalists that they were full of gratitude to the Muslim community in the area that assisted in the release of the abductees.
He said the Muslim community where the worshippers were abducted contributed money and bought a motorcycle as part of the ransom required for the release of their Christian brothers and sisters in captivity.
He said this move shows good, caring and sincere neighbours who are concerned about the plight of their brothers and sisters abducted and their sincere wish that they return home to live together in peace and harmony.
The CAN president added that the example that the Muslim community in Madala has shown should be emulated by all in the state which will bring peaceful coexistence leading to the development of the state.
He was quoted saying, “The Muslim community has shown that one does not need to be educated before doing the needful. Nigerians from all walks of life should be their brother’s keepers to eliminate all forms of insecurity in every part of the country.”
16 of the freed worshippers have reunited with their families.
