A police inspector, Festus Onori, has been mobbed to death by some commercial motorcyclists in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Council of Delta State.

The 45-year-old officer was attached to the Marine Police Station, Cable Point Asaba before he was killed in the presence of his wife and three children.

Recounting the ordeal, Mr Austin Onori, elder brother to the late officer Festus, said the Inspector was on his way to church with his family when a commercial motorcyclist said to be of northern extraction hit his vehicle at the rear in Okpanam, near Asaba.

Inspector Onori was about to park properly to find out what happened but to his surprise over 20 commercial motorcyclists attacked him with sticks and other dangerous weapons.

On noticing what was happening, the officer ran back to his car.

“And as he drove off with fear, the Okada riders pursued him. When he got to Marble Hill Okpanam, he diverted through that road to the express thinking that his chasers would be discouraged and retreat.

“Behold, they pursued him down to Ogwashi-Uku Community near Kwale, when the fuel in his vehicle got exhausted on the Ogwashi Uku Community Kwale expressway.

“At that time, his pursuers numbered over 50. Then, they mobbed him to death in the presence of his wife and three children.

“They also destroyed his vehicle. It was a passerby, according to the wife, who took him to Ogwashi-Uku police station before he was confirmed dead. As I speak, his remains have been deposited in the morgue.”

When contacted, the spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, said he was yet to get an official report about the matter.
