High Court in Asaba has sentenced one John Adjeke-Apkoghene a staff of the Delta State House of Assembly to two years imprisonment over salary fraud of N14.5 million.

The case of Akpoghene was brought before the court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in a one-count charge before Justice Onome Marshal-Umukoro.

Akpoghene was accused by the ICPC of receiving N14,525,550 million as a double salary from the state Assembly and Ughelli South Council for four years.

The counsel to ICPC, S. Chibuzor told the court the staff was working under pretense as a civil servant and also supervisory councillor with Ughelli South Council.

However, Akpoghene argued that he did not know that having two working placements with the government was a crime.

He was thereafter sentenced by Justice Marshall-Umokoro to two years imprisonment with an option fine of N500,000 and a monthly refund to the state House of Assembly.
