Mali has dismissed the Prime Minister, Choguel Kokalla Maïga, over statements made against the junta government during a rally in Bamako, the nation’s capital.

Maïga had slammed the military government for postponing the transition of power to civilian rule, which was scheduled to begin on March 26 after power was taken by the military in 2020.

Relieving Maïga of his duties on Wednesday, the Secretary General of the Presidential Office, Alfousseyni Diawara, announced that the Prime Minister and members of his government are terminated.

From Maïga’s point of view, he claimed to have been relying on media reports and updates since the junta has left him out of the debate after military leader Assimi Goïta promised elections would be held in February, but there is nothing to show for it.

The government is yet to announce who will replace Maïga as Prime Minister.
