The new minimum wage public hearing to address issues bordering the Nigeria Labour Congress is set to be held today Thursday 7, 2024 across the six geo-political zones.

The 37-member tripartite committee set by the federal government would review the national minimum wage.

Ministers, Organized Labour, State government, and Civil Society groups both private sectors are expected to decide on the minimum wage for workers regarding the economic pressure faced by all.

The hearing which will be held simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom and Adamawa indicates that NLC would push and peg the wage at N500,000 since the N30,000 wage has amounted to having nothing.

President of the NLC, Joe Ajearo had earlier stated that with the high rate of inflation, they might be forced to increase the minimum wage to N1 million.

However, an insider of NLC said various proposals submitted at the headquarters by chapters indicate that the new minimum wage will not fall below N500,000.
