Gunmen attacked the Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Jimeta community, in the early hours of Wednesday, which has set fear in the heart of residents in Yola.
A resident who pleaded anonymity said gunshots rend the air for over 30 minutes.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, later confirmed to Daily Trust that the attack was repelled and things were under control.
He also said that they are yet to identify those behind the attack, while another source pointed to the military being on revenge after a military officer was killed by a police officer.
Police however said investigations were ongoing to unravel the cause and those behind it.
The development comes days after the stand-off between officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.
Air Force personnel had invaded EFCC head office in Kaduna state to release their colleagues arrested over alleged fraud but military and security operatives guarding the commission almost exchanged gunfire.
A statement was later released by the EFCC that they would not be intimidated in the course of doing their duty.
