Some states have started taking measures to ensure the safety of lives and properties from flooding as Cameroon set to open the Lagdo dam.

The Cameroonian government had earlier sent a letter to the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, during the weekend for measures to be taken as the country intends to open its dam.

States on the frontline of the impact of such floods when the dam is released are Lagos, Delta, Anambra, Benue, Bayelsa, Kogi, Adamawa and other coastal areas.

However, some of these systems like Delta, Lagos and Benue said they have started ta king measures to prevent loss of any kind and asked those living in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher grounds.

Reacting to the letter sent by Cameroon to NEMA, the government of Delta said proactive steps have been put in place to mitigate the effect of flooding in the state and in case of severe flooding, IDP camps will be set up.

According to Sir Festus Ahon, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborewori, he said they have already commenced the opening of drainages and demolition of illegal structures blocking waterways in the state.
