The Federal Government has suspended the sale of the 50kg bag of rice subsidized for N40,000 meant for civil servants without any specific reason given.

The information was contained in a circular signed by the Director of Human Resources, Aderonke Jaiyesimi from the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs.

The circular, which was dated August 2, 2024, did not say if the scheme was temporarily or permanently suspended.

Earlier, before the sudden withdrawal by the Federal Government, it was initially planned that civil servants would apply for the 50kg bags of rice through a Google form that they would fill from the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

This was the only medium by which the subsidized rice could get to workers to make the process work smoothly, with the Chairman of the Joint Union Council Ministry acting as observer.
