The Federal Government has apologized for asking all account holders in the country’s financial institutions to register their details again or risk attracting a monetary penalty or a blocked account.

This was announced in tweet on Friday that reads “We apologise for the misleading tweets(now deleted) that went up yesterday regarding the completion of self-certification forms by Reportable Persons. The message contained in the @firsNigeria Notice does not apply to everybody.”

In a press statement, the Federal Inland Revenue Service explained that only “reportable persons” are expected to register their bank details again by filling out self-certification form.”

The agency has defined reportable persons as individuals and entities who have presence in more than one country.
