There are strong indications that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Tanko Mohammed has resigned from office.

The resignation according to a reliable source is based on health grounds.

NewsCritic reports that the resignation of the embattled CJN Tanko Mohammed is coming against the backdrop of the crisis in the apex court following the protest letter by his colleagues the justices of the supreme court, accusing the CJN Tanko Mohammed of sundry offences.

It could be recalled that the Chief Justice of Nigeria some time ago went to Dubai on health grounds though the ailment wasn’t made public. Reports have it that the CJN has long-standing health challenges.

Sources also confirmed that the resignation might not be connected to the crisis in the supreme court. The news of his resignation has thrown open the process for his successor to emerge.

NewsCritic gathered that going by the standing rules which make it possible for the most senior justice to take over, the next in line to the CJN Tanko Mohammed is said to be Justice Olukayode Agboola, according to Arise TV.
