Election In Togo Postponed As President Delays Signing Constitutional Reform Bill

With controversies trailing the constitutional reform bill by the Togolese parliament, the country’s election slated for April 20 has been postponed.

Recall that the lawmakers of Togo had unanimously agreed to change the system of government from Presidential to Parliamentary which was opposed by groups that it might allow President Faure Gnassingbé to stay in power without leaving.

In regards to that President Gnassingbé is yet to sign the bill as consultations are still ongoing.

A new date is yet to be communicated for the election even as Catholic Bishops in Togo are urging the president not to consider signing the bill.

The bill has however been sent back to the parliament for a second reading with the high controversy trailing it.
