Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, is to face interrogation over financial dealings in her office at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), today.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier authorised her suspension from office, through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale and directed the EFCC to investigate the N585m scandal in the ministry.

Hours after she was suspended the Minister was denied access to see President Tinubu at the villa

A panel headed by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance was also set up by President Tinubu to conduct comprehensive work on the social investment program and win back the lost confidence of people about the initiative program.

The scandal involving Edu burst open after a leaked memo revealed that she directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585m to a private account owned by one Oniyelu Bridget, who the ministry claimed currently serves as the Project Accountant, Grants for Vulnerable Groups.

According to the claims by Edu, the allegations are baseless as the said N585m was for payment meant for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states.
