Post created on 10:38 am

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, also known as Vehicle Inspection Office, to immediately stop confiscating, impounding, or stopping vehicles on the road.

The restraining judgment was given by Justice Evelyn Maha following a suit filed by Abubakar Marshal, a fundamental human rights activist and public interest attorney.

The court said the actions of VIO imposing fines and other wrong activities by its agents on vehicle users are unlawful.

Therefore, in agreement with the suit, Justice Maha, on October 2, 2024,  held that VIO officials have no legal standing to stop, impound, confiscate, or levy any motorist.
