The election that brought Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State into power has been affirmed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

Alia’s election was challenged in court in a petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Titus Uba following the judgment given by the tribunal.

During the proceedings at the tribunal, Uba claimed that Alia’s deputy, Samuel Ode, presented a forged certificate to INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Also, Alia’s name was submitted less than 180 days before the election date, and Ode was also not submitted to INEC after the party conducted a further re-run primary election.

The three-member led panel by Justice Ibrahim Karaye, dismissed the petition for lacking jurisdiction and also a pre-election matter.
