A civil society group recognized as the Concerned Citizens Against Corruption staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding a full investigation into the financial dealings of the immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari.
On Wednesday, another group, the Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, a coalition of legal professionals, sent a letter signed by the group convener, Emmanuel Agada, and the national secretary, Jonathan Uchendu, alleging that Kyari’s leadership was full of corruption and secrecy.
The group claimed in the letter that $1.5 billion had been approved by the Federal Executive Council for the Port Harcourt Refinery, but Matrix Energy Limited invested $400 million into the same project.
The petition raises concerns over NNPCL’s 2 million dollar debt to Matrix Energy and servicing it with a daily crude oil supply of 80,000 barrels.
With the concerns raised, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has assured a full investigation into the growing tension.
Standing and giving the assurance was the Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Winifred Adekunle, at the headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
