‎A civil society group recognized as the Concerned Citizens Against Corruption staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding a full investigation into the financial dealings of the immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari.

‎On Wednesday, another group, the Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, a coalition of legal professionals, sent a letter signed by the group convener, Emmanuel Agada, and the national secretary, Jonathan Uchendu, alleging that Kyari’s leadership was full of corruption and secrecy.

‎The group claimed in the letter that $1.5 billion had been approved by the Federal Executive Council for the Port Harcourt Refinery, but Matrix Energy Limited invested $400 million into the same project.

‎The petition raises concerns over NNPCL’s 2 million dollar debt to Matrix Energy and servicing it with a daily crude oil supply of 80,000 barrels.

‎With the concerns raised, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has assured a full investigation into the growing tension.

‎Standing and giving the assurance was the Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Winifred Adekunle, at the headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
