Anioma Youth Council Worldwide, (AYCW), the apex Social-Cultural Youth Group in Anioma, an affiliate member of Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council, and Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council have passed a vote of No confidence on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his cabinet.

The statement was signed by the council’s President General, comrade Enudi Marcus, Comrade Isreal Uwaya Ekpu, Secretary General and made available to newsmen

Together with Ambassador Promise Ogumu, Governor, of Ika zone, Chief Dada Omenife, Governor, of Aniocha/Oshimili zone, Comrade Afam Oseji and Governor of Ukwuani/Ndokwa zone.

The statement reads “We have observed, that the Delta State Government under the watch of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has a tradition of rehabilitating the New Agbor/Sapele Road, from Agbor, through Abavo, Umutu, Obiaruku, Abraka, Eku to Sapele, every year with Multi Millions of Naira.

“The rehabilitated Road does not last more than six months then they come back in the next year to allocate another Multi-Million Naira, thereby enriching themselves after executing a poor job, with huge sums of our resources. We condemn this act of deceit year in and year out.

“We should also be aware that most rehabilitated roads in Rivers State have been good as new, year in and year out, the same rehabilitation of Federal Roads was done by both states some years ago.

“Rivers State Government has never embarked on rehabilitation of same roads, after many years, but in Delta State, the New Agbor/Sapele Road rehabilitation project is been used every year as a conduit pipe to syphon our resources to private pockets.

“This is just one of many sins of the Delta State Government under the watch of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

“We are also aware of the negligence of Delta State Government in paying our parents their pensions and gratuities, it is very worrisome that after retirement our parents are made to face poverty, sometimes leading to death.

“Deltans are also aware, that DESOPADEC is a dead intervention agency, which cannot mould one block now, because there is no money in the commission, and even payment of staff salaries is becoming very difficult.

“We are also aware, that Delta State resources is been used to support a Presidential candidate.

“The Asaba/Ughelli Road project has been abandoned. We can see the many abandoned projects in many parts of Anioma.

We are aware, that this proposed rehabilitation of New Agbor/Sapele Road, won’t last more than June/July 2023.

“We demand good governance, transparency and accountability, we demand to know the amount of money they have spent on the yearly rehabilitation of the said road, and why the road project does not last more than six months.”
