Police Officer Arrested Over Killing of Man in Effurun

ASP Nuhu Usman, the police officer who killed a suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun after being caught trying to waybill a Bristol pistol, has been arrested and sent to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for disciplinary action.

Ogidi was first shot by the officer in the leg while still pleading with the officers around him that he was deceived by his friend in Sapele and promised to talk. ASP Usman shot a second time at his head.

Outrage started when the video of the 28-year-old trended online, which made the PPRO of Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, in a statement on Tuesday, disclose that the police officer leading the team, ASP Nuhu Usman, clearly violated Force Order 237 and the Standard Operating Procedure of the Nigeria Police Force by discharging his firearm, leading to the death of the suspect.

Edafe said the CP of the state, Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of the officer but he has been transferred to Force Headquarters Abuja for disciplinary actions.
