The government of Borno State has defended the Nigerian military strike by Operation Hadin Kai in the Jilli area of Gubio Local Government Area on Saturday, April 11, 2026, as residents are warned against harboring or providing logistical support to Boko Haram insurgents.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, described Jilli Market as a notorious hub allegedly used by insurgents and their logistics suppliers, stating that the market has been closed for five years.

Jilli, a border community between Gubio LGA in Borno State and Geidam LGA in Yobe State, has been identified as a red flag zone, along with Gazabure markets.

The statement revealed that Borno and Yobe States are in close consultation with security agencies to coordinate security and determine when to reopen markets in affected areas, urging residents to be vigilant and cooperate with the military.
