Christian Genocide: Sheikh Gumi Threatens Human Rights Lawyer

There has been a trade of words between Muslim cleric leader Sheikh Gumi and human rights lawyer Malcom Emokiniovo Omirhobo over a defamatory statement allegedly damaging the image of the cleric.

Gumi gave Omirhobo 24 hours to withdraw what the lawyer said regarding the federal government’s need to investigate the public statements and interactions of Gumi, which he believes raise national security concerns as Gumi interacts with, defends, and justifies the actions of terrorists.

Reacting to Sheikh Gumi’s ultimatum, the lawyer has refused to apologize to the Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, stating firmly that he stands by his words and that if Gumi feels defamed, they should meet in court.

In a statement shared on his Facebook on Friday, Omirhobo said the statement made was not defamatory but a call for public interest protected by the constitution.

“I did not accuse Sheikh Gumi of being a terrorist. I only urged the authorities to look into his public utterances and engagements that seem to defend or justify the actions of terrorists.

“I stand by my statement. I won’t take it back. No individual, cleric or otherwise, is above the law,” Omirhobo said.
