Woman sets self ablaze over N70,000 loan

Over the weekend at Abeokuta, the state capital of Ogun, a woman reportedly set herself on fire over her inability to pay back a N70,000 loan she obtained from a microfinance bank.

The diseased burnt herself inside her rented apartment at Oke-Keesi, Itoko area of Abeokuta was simply identified as mama Dada.

She reportedly killed herself to avoid the embarrassment that would befall her due to her inability to repay the N70,000 loan.

It was reported that over the weekend, the woman sent her last child to help her buy fuel, locked herself up after asking the boy to go out, wet everywhere with petrol including herself, and set the whole place on fire.

Her corpse had since been deposited at the State General Hospital at Ijaye, Abeokuta.

With the nation’s poor economy, the majority of the borrowers default on the repayment plans and are subject to very humiliating treatments, including being arrested and locked up in toilets.
