The ongoing West African Examination Council (WAEC) has faced some challenges, including the board’s late delivery of papers and students writing exams with candlelight at night, along with other unforeseen circumstances that have affected some centers.
This is the situation of a parent whose child is at Complete Child Development College, Aule, in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The parent sent thugs to beat up the vice principal of the school for preventing her son from cheating during the exams.
An Android phone was reportedly seen with the SS3 student during the exams, and the Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, took custody of the phone since it was against the rules and regulations of the school.
The following day, the mother of the student came to cause a commotion, claiming that the phone was given to her by the proprietor. However, that didn’t stop there, as the brother of the student, who is an old student of the school, later came to harass the VP and threatened to deal with him.
An investigation by the state government through the Director of Schools, Ondo State Ministry of Education, revealed that after the close of school, some boys were loitering around. The case was reported to the police station, and two officers accompanied Mr. Rotifa to look for the boys.
However, while still inside the police van, Mr. Rotifa was dragged out and beaten by the boys but was later rushed to the hospital for treatment. Measures have been put in place for the safety of students and staff during the remaining papers, while investigations and efforts are ongoing to get the VP’s attackers arrested.
