The death of three youths shot by a vigilante on guard in a hotel in Sapele, who is currently on the run, has led to a disruption of law and order and the burning down of the hotel.
On Monday, December 1, some youths lodged at a hotel in Ibada-Elume Community. In the early hours, the electricity went off, which made the youths come out of their rooms due to the heat.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, somewhere around the hotel premises, the youths started making noise, and the vigilante on duty asked them to return to their rooms or he would shoot.
In response, the youths declined and asked him to do his worst. The vigilante opened fire and shot one of them, who was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead upon arrival.
The youths, in anger, stormed the hotel, but the vigilante had regrouped, trying to control the situation. Two other persons were shot dead instantly.
The youths retreated and mobilized for a reprisal attack, but when they arrived, the vigilante had escaped from the scene. Out of anger, the hotel was burned down.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, confirmed on Thursday that the case is before the Force.
