A 200-level Microbiology student at Delta State University, Abraka, Ezi Ugoma, has been rusticated from the institution following a video made about a dying student at the school health center and posted on TikTok.
The management of the university suspended Ugoma for four semesters over gross misconduct after her appearance at the Students’ Disciplinary Committee on August 21, 22, and 25, where it was determined that she went against the oath she swore on her matriculation day.
The letter signed by the institution’s Assistant Registrar, Ughwumiakpor A., states that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba, approved the committee’s recommendation that Ugoma be rusticated for four semesters, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session, and she is expected to resume studies in the 2027/2028 session.
Different opinions have followed the report, as Ugoma’s stepfather has stated that this would be the end of her education, as she would return to the village.
However, media personnel Rufai Oseni has sent a plea to the Vice Chancellor of the University to reconsider the decision, as the young girl’s intention was to raise awareness of the consequences of abortions.
