Underage Can Seek University Admission, Delta High Court Orders JAMB

Following the age limit restrictions by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on students seeking admission to attain age 18 before being admitted into tertiary institutions, a former Nigeria Bar Association Chairman in the Warri branch dragged the board to court.

Barrister John Aikpokpo-Martins, dissatisfied with the directives from JAMB despite exemption by the board for students seeking admission for the 2024/2025 session, filed a suit before the Delta State High Court in Warri against the board and Edwin Clark University.

The court, however, gave a restraining order to JAMB not to implement the policy for 16 years of admission seekers into various institutions in the country pending a hearing and determination of the motion.
