The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed that it will on Wednesday begin the evacuation of Nigerians who have fled the war in Ukraine to neighbouring countries.

This was disclosed by Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, the  Minister of Foreign Affairs, in an interview on a Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme.

With Ukraine still at war with Russia and a no-fly zone effective across the country, the evacuation is expected to take place from neighbouring countries.

The minister stated that funds had been approved for the airlines to evacuate Nigerians on “Wednesday hopefully…Air Peace and Max Air.”

He  said there were about 8,000 Nigerians in Ukraine, 5,000 of whom were students.
